Diversity in Tech: How to Build a Diverse Technology Workforce

How do you build diversity in technology teams?

Building a truly diverse tech team is no easy feat. With technology talent shortages, an industry wide gender imbalance and so many unique experiences clustered under the “diversity” umbrella how do you develop your DEI strategy without leaving anyone behind?

Our panellists have all put DEI at the heart of their hiring strategies and have hands on experience of building diversity in technology teams. Our panel shared their experiences alongside actionable tips you can use to create your own strategy.

As global technology and transformation recruiters Trilogy International partners with technology-led businesses the world over. We are always speaking to clients who want to hire more diverse technology teams and with technology professionals from underrepresented backgrounds, who want to work for businesses with genuine inclusive cultures.

39% of the candidates we have place in the US have been from underrepresented backgrounds. We have achieved this by partnering with businesses who are committed to DEI, and by understanding the nuanced needs of our candidates.

Fintech South 2021: The Power of Human Capital- Why Diverse Teams Make Companies Better

Hosted by: TAG’s Diversity & Inclusion Society

Preliminary figures from the latest U.S. Census show that the white non-Hispanic/non-Latino population declined to about 60%, down from over 63% just 10 years earlier. It is expected that within the millennials’ lifetime, the U.S. population will not have a single ethnic or racial majority. Diversity in the workplace is no longer something to aspire to, it is a strategic imperative. However, we shouldn’t stop at diversity, equality requires inclusivity – everyone belongs at the table and each voice at the table matters. We know organizations benefit from cultivating diverse and inclusive teams – increase in profitability, better talent retention, innovation, and creative problem solving. This open conversation will delve at the heart of the challenge of how to effectively build and harness the power of inclusivity in organizations and discuss Atlanta’s opportunity to emerge as an inclusive city where everyone thrives.
